Washington DC (USA) – On 26 November, near the White House (the residence of the US President), gunfire resulted in the death of a female National Guard soldier and left another soldier critically injured. In this case, 29-year-old Afghan citizen Rahmanullah Lakanwal has been arrested. He has been charged with serious criminal offences. Following the incident, President Donald Trump declared it a terrorist attack and described it as extremely serious. He also accused authorities of grave negligence in allowing Afghan refugees into the country. The administration has decided to halt the processing of all asylum applications submitted by Afghan nationals in the US. Additionally, issuance of visas to Afghan passport holders has also been suspended.

Afghan organisation accuses US Administration
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ordered that issuing visas to Afghan passport holders be stopped immediately. Meanwhile, an organisation named Afghan Evac stated that punishing an entire community for the crime of one individual amounts to collective punishment, and it appears to be an excuse to enforce policies previously planned by the administration.
Who is attacker Rahmanullah Lakanwal ?
Lakanwal came to the United States in 2021 through the US mission “Operation Allies Welcome.” This initiative was launched to resettle Afghans who assisted US forces in the fight against the Taliban. He previously worked as a security guard in the “Zero Unit,” a CIA-supported (Central Intelligence Agency) special unit.
Another Afghan national arrested
Another individual brought to the US under Operation Allies Welcome was arrested on 29 November. He is accused of posting a video on TikTok—a popular social media platform in the US—showing himself making explosive devices. According to information provided by Fox News, the name of this Afghan national is Mohammad Dawood Alokozay.
