Bishop Rafael Jornosa of Spain resigns !

Sexual abuse case in the Catholic Church !

(Clergy serving in the upper ranks of the Church are referred to as “bishops.”)

Madrid (Spain) — Rafael Jornosa, the 76‑year‑old bishop of the Diocese of Cádiz and Ceuta, has resigned. Pope Leo has accepted his resignation. Jornosa stands accused of sexually abusing a minor in the 1990s and is currently under investigation by the Church Tribunal.

1. He is the first Catholic bishop in Spain to face an open Vatican investigation.

2. The victim, in a letter to the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, recounts that the abuse began in 1994 when he was just 14 years old. It continued for 7 years, until he turned 21.

3. The victim describes how the bishop would enter his room at night, leaving him terrified and silent. He would lie beside him, engage in sexual acts, and repeat the abuse in the mornings.

4. This case has reignited outrage over the Catholic Church’s long, shameful history of covering up systemic sexual abuse.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Once again, the mask of holiness has been ripped away. Those who parade in white robes, preaching love and peace, are repeatedly exposed as corrupt, predatory, and morally bankrupt.
  • It Is no exaggeration to say that many now see churches not as sanctuaries of prayer, but as breeding grounds for abuse.
