Bengaluru – “Space travel was easier,” remarked astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla while speaking about Bengaluru’s traffic at an event here. He said that although reaching Bengaluru from space was easy, travelling the 34 km stretch from Marathahalli to Shikar took three times longer. The Karnataka Government’s Department of Electronics, IT and BT had organised the ‘Bengaluru Tech Summit’ under the concept ‘Futurise’. Shubhanshu Shukla was present at the event’s valedictory session.

In Bengaluru, it takes nearly 63 minutes to cover just 19 km. Each commuter spends around 117 hours a year stuck in traffic congestion. From January to June 2025, over 3 lakh new private vehicles were added to the city’s roads. Nearly 50,000 vehicles were registered in June alone. According to the transport department, this number is still incomplete, since vehicles from neighbouring districts and other States also enter the city daily.
