A major accident occurred due to the container’s brake failure!

Pune, Maharashtra – A major accident occurred near Navale Bridge on the Pune–Bengaluru Highway at around 5.40 pm on 13 November when the brakes of a container truck (a heavy-goods vehicle) failed. In the collision involving two container trucks and a car, eight people were burnt to death and around 20–22 others were injured. Six of the deceased have been identified, including a three-year-old girl.

On 14 November, Member of Parliament and Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol visited the accident site for an inspection. Khadakwasla MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and National Highways Authority official Sanjay Kadam were also present.

The container truck coming from the Katraj tunnel towards Navale Bridge suffered brake failure and crashed violently into 15–20 vehicles on the road. A ‘traveller’ vehicle overturned, injuring its passengers. When the container hit a car from behind, the car’s CNG cylinder exploded, killing five occupants on the spot. Soon afterwards, the container’s fuel tank caught fire, killing the truck driver and his assistant as well. Traffic along the highway came to a complete standstill. Rescue teams launched relief operations immediately.
