Claim by Bangladeshi journalist Salahuddin Shoaib Chowdhury !

New Delhi — According to Bangladeshi journalist Salahuddin Shoaib Chowdhury, Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has for decades been running international drug-trafficking networks through Islamist terrorist groups. The profits from this trade are allegedly diverted to finance terrorist operations; a campaign Chowdhury calls “narco-jihad.” He says the ISI secretly collaborates with multiple transnational organisations, including Hezbollah (Lebanon), Boko Haram (Nigeria), Al-Qaeda-linked groups, and criminal networks linked to Dawood Ibrahim. Chowdhury warns that these networks are now also turning their attention toward Bangladesh.

Links with South American drug mafias !
In an article for the weekly Blitz, Chowdhury claims that the ISI and Dawood Ibrahim’s syndicate have established financial ties with drug cartels in Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela, Nicaragua and other South American countries. He further alleges long-standing cooperation; to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars; involving Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in drug-related dealings.

India as a target !
Chowdhury alleges that Boko Haram has allied with Al-Qaeda and Dawood Ibrahim to expand “narco-jihad” inside India. With direct support from Dawood and the ISI, these groups have reportedly penetrated drug distribution networks in India, using narcotics trafficking to raise funds for terrorist activities.
Pakistan’s long-standing role in the drug trade !
Chowdhury claims Pakistani military and the ISI have been involved in the global drug trade for many years. He notes that before 2022, Taliban-controlled Afghanistan produced an estimated 80% of the world’s opium; since then, Pakistan’s military and intelligence agencies have allegedly been active in the trade. He further alleges large-scale heroin production in Pakistan and circulation of counterfeit Indian currency printed there to foment disorder inside India.
A new route via Bangladesh
After a change of government in Bangladesh, Chowdhury contends, the ISI and Dawood saw an opportunity. Exploiting the present anti-India interim government in Dhaka, he says the ISI and Dawood syndicate have built networks inside Bangladesh and are establishing new distribution hubs there. The aim, he alleges, is not only to flood India with drugs but to create independent transnational trafficking chains that expand the Dawood–ISI reach.
Chowdhury warns that the recent ISI–Dawood “narco-jihad” operations are extremely worrying and urges India and the United States to treat these developments with seriousness.
