New Delhi – Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has alleged that the events of July–August last year were part of a foreign conspiracy aimed at removing her from power. “Do not call it a revolution. It was a terrorist assault on Bangladesh, planned by the United States and executed from Pakistan, disguised as a student uprising. It was an invasion to overthrow me. The police accused of killings were not responsible — the violence was carried out by terrorists to turn public opinion against me,” Hasina said, making these claims publicly for the first time since leaving her country.
US wanted Saint Martin’s Island, says Hasina
Hasina confirmed long-circulating reports that the United States had demanded Bangladesh’s Saint Martin’s Island. “If I had agreed to hand over Saint Martin’s Island, I would not have been removed from office. But I refused to sell my country,” she stated.
Hasina accuses Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus of instigating violence
Hasina alleged that Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim Government, was the key conspirator. “Do you know who was truly behind this plot? It was Yunus. Acting on American instructions, he planned, financed, and executed the terrorist violence that took place in Bangladesh last July–August. He is a traitor who destroyed his own country to satisfy his personal ambitions,” she claimed.
Pakistan’s long-standing role in supporting terrorism in Bangladesh
Hasina further accused Pakistan of having consistently backed extremist networks within Bangladesh. “Radical elements in Pakistan have supported terrorist organisations operating in Bangladesh for decades. This pattern of interference has continued since 1971,” she said.
