We never comment on Bakri Eid, so no one should preach to Hindus about bursting crackers during Diwali !

Statement by Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri

Mumbai –  Pollution is indeed a serious concern, but why is it brought up only during Hindu festivals ? Film actors should refrain from sermonising about firecrackers during Diwali. We never lecture anyone about Bakri Eid or Tazia (a replica of Imam Hussain’s tomb, made in various forms and sizes). Therefore, no one should preach to us about our festivals either. This is our tradition, and we shall continue to uphold it — said Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri while replying to a journalist’s question at Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh.

He made this remark after visiting the Shri Siddhivinayak Temple for darshan. Reporters had asked him about the pollution caused by Diwali firecrackers and the film actors’ appeals against bursting them, to which he gave the above response.
