New Delhi – ‘Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi invited a select group of male journalists to the Afghan embassy. Women journalists were denied entry’, claimed a few female journalists. The Congress has criticized the BJP Government over this incident. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi questioned the Prime Minister, saying that when women are the backbone and pride of the country, how could India allow some of the most capable women in our country to be disrespected.

Union Government’s stand

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has clarified regarding the controversy. The ministry said that India had no role in the press conference of the Afghan Foreign Minister, and no journalists were invited by the ministry. The Afghan Ambassador in Mumbai had gone to Delhi for the Afghan Foreign Minister’s visit to India. He had sent invitations to selected journalists. The Afghan Embassy does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Indian Government.

What happened at the press conference ?

Amir Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan under the Taliban regime, is on a week-long visit to India from October 9th. On October 10th, he held a press conference at the Afghan Embassy in Delhi. Muttaqi spoke on various issues including India-Afghanistan relations, humanitarian assistance, trade, and security cooperation.

Editorial Perspective

Priyanka Gandhi, who tries to politicize everything, has never been seen supporting anti-Love Jihad law. Why has she never demanded a nationwide anti-Love Jihad law ? Or does she think that only selected women have rights ?
