Prime Minister Modi and then Home Minister P. Chidambaram

New Delhi –  Congress leader and former Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram refuted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai in 2008. He wrote on X,  “I was disappointed to read that the Honourable Prime Minister of India has associated my name with fictional events.

Prime Minister Modi’s statement !

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Mumbai on October 8, had said that a senior Congress leader and even former Home Minister (PK) Chidambaram also had claimed in a recent interview that after the 26/11 attack in Mumbai, our army was ready to attack Pakistan. That is what the country wanted; but the Congress government knelt down before the terrorists. The Congress did not invade due to pressure from other countries.

Chidambaram’s statement in the interview !

On September 30, Chidambaram had said in an interview that after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, he too had the idea of revenge. But the then Congress government decided not to take military action. There was pressure from all over the world. We were being told not to fight. The then US Secretary of State came to Delhi and said, ‘Please don’t take action.’ Without revealing any official secret, I confess that I did have revengefulness at the time.

Editorial Perspective

Why does Chidambaram not elaborate on ‘why no action was taken against Pakistan to stop the firecracker like bombings during the Congress rule ?’
