CDU leads, while the far-right nationalist ‘AfD’ becomes the second-largest party !
Berlin (Germany) – Germany, the largest economy in Europe, has witnessed a defeat for Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the recent midterm general elections. His party, the left-wing Social Democratic Party (SDP), has been pushed to third place in the results. The conservative opposition leader, Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) alliance won 208 seats (28.5% of the votes) out of 630, while the SDP was left with 121 seats (16.5% of the votes). Interestingly, the far-right nationalist and anti-Muslim party, AfD (Alternative for Germany), became the second-largest party by winning 151 seats (20.8% of the votes). For the first time since World War II, a far-right nationalist party has won these many seats in Germany.
1.A minimum of 315 seats is required for a majority in the German parliament, meaning forming a Government without a coalition is not possible. The AfD is willing to form a coalition with the CDU, but the CDU has refused to ally with the far-right AfD.
2.US President Donald Trump remarked that it was a great day for both Germany and the US. He said that, like in America, the people of Germany have grown tired of the Government’s ridiculous policies regarding energy and immigration.
Allegations of election interference by Elon Musk and Russia !
There are allegations that US billionaire Elon Musk and Russia interfered in the elections. Musk had openly supported the far-right nationalist leader Alice Weidel of the AfD. Additionally, groups like ‘Doppelganger’ and ‘Storm-1516’ are said to have influenced the elections through Russia’s ‘bot army’ (thousands of controlled computers). They allegedly created hundreds of videos every day, posting them in support of the AfD. Furthermore, it is claimed that fake news was spread through more than 100 fake websites.
