Layer of plastic bio-accumulating in brain; Research reveals shocking information

London (UK) – The presence of ‘microplastics’ around our planet is no longer a new phenomenon. It has reached the air, water, food, and various parts of our body. Recent research has revealed that these ‘microplastic’ particles are rapidly accumulating in our brains, which may increase the risk of neurological disorders. According to a study published in the medical journal Nature Medicine, the presence of ‘microplastics’ in the human brain has increased by 50% between 2016 and 2024.In this research, the brains of 24 deceased individuals were tested, and researchers found an average of 7 grams of ‘microplastics’ in each brain.

1. The lead scientist of the study, Matthew Campen, said that finding such a large amount of plastic in our brains is extremely concerning for our health.

2. When researchers analysed the brains of 12 patients suffering from dementia, they found that these individuals had five times more ‘microplastics’ than others. This raises fears that ‘microplastics’ may be linked to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

3. Scientists believe that microplastics are entering the human body through food and water. They discovered that polyethylene (used in bottles and plastic cups) is accumulating in the brain in the highest amounts.

Harmful effects of Microplastics:

1. Damage to body cells and inflammation.

2. Disruption of brain function, leading to memory loss and impaired thinking abilities.

3. Increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and cancer.

How to reduce the impact of Microplastics :

1. Use glass or metal containers instead of plastic ones to store food.

2. Drink filtered water instead of water from plastic bottles.

3. Use high-quality air filters and maintain a dust-free environment at home.

4. Avoid eating processed foods, as they contain higher amounts of microplastics.

Editorial Perspective

The dangers posed by plastic are well-known; however, it is concerning that no Government worldwide is taking the initiative to ban plastic or offer alternatives.
