Congress promises Rs 2,500 monthly allowances to women if it wins Delhi polls

New Delhi – The Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections are scheduled for 5th February 2025. On 18th December 2024, Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal had announced that the Delhi cabinet has approved a scheme to provide monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to poor women in Delhi, adding that the assistance would be raised to Rs 2,100 after the 2025 Assembly elections.

On the other hand, the Congress promised Rs 2,500 monthly allowances to women in Delhi if the party wins the 2025 Assembly elections.

Congress leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar and Delhi Congress Chief Devender Yadav unveiled what the party called the ‘Pyari Didi Yojana’ at a press conference at the Delhi Congress office and said that the monthly allowances will enable the women to fight high inflation caused by a ‘useless Government’. The scheme will be approved in the first meeting of the Cabinet they said.

The present Delhi Government already provides free bus travel for women in all Government buses, a poll promise in 2020 that appeared to have brought them great dividends five years ago.

Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal later announced free bus rides for male school and college students, along with a 50% concession on Metro fares for all students if his party is voted back to power in 2025 Assembly elections.

Arvind Kejriwal urged the Central Government to collaborate with the Delhi Government in sharing 50% of the cost of this initiative.

Editorial Perspectives

Buying votes with public money has become a trend across the country. This is affecting the Nation’s developmental work.

The greatest tragedy is – people do not realise that they are being cheated. The day people realise that such doles are not strengthening but weakening the Indian Democracy, it will be a golden day !
