Congress Member of Parliament Karti Chidambaram criticises Kamakoti

IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti

Chennai – IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti has come in for severe flak for praising cow urine’s ‘medicinal value’. In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Kamakoti is seen endorsing the “anti-bacteria, anti-fungal, and digestive properties” of cow urine. Congress leader Karti P Chidambaram slammed the remark and said: “Peddling pseudoscience by an IIT Director is extremely unbecoming.”

V Kamkoti was speaking at a workshop at the Go Samrakshana Sala here on the day of Maatu Pongal. This was organised on 15th January. He expounded on the beneficial quality of gomutra, its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. and said it is useful for conditions such as the Irritable Bowel Syndrome and batted for consideration of its medicinal value. Gomutra is also beneficial as organic fertiliser for farming.

Karti Chidambaram in his post on ‘X’ said, It is shameful that an IIT Madras Director is promoting pseudoscience and unbecoming for a person holding such a position in such a prestigious institution.

Editorial perspective

Gomutra is considered holy according to the Hindu Dharma, and it is being consumed from time immemorial. Science realising its importance only now, it shows its limitations. But Congress leader who is raising objection about this shows his Hindu phobic mentality.
