Muhammad Yunus meets the religious leaders of Bangladesh

Matter of persecution of minority Hindus in Bangladesh

Mohammad Yunus, Principal Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh

Dhaka – Protests in Bangladesh have continued unabated since the arrest of ISKCON’s Chinmoy Krishna Das. Minority Hindus in Bangladesh face increasing attacks, leaving the community anxious about their safety. Amid rising tensions, Muhammed Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim Government, has reached out to religious leaders to seek their cooperation in improving the situation. Yunus has assured the minority communities of their safety. (The global community has witnessed extremist attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. Mere assurance is insufficient; strict action against attackers is expected from the national leadership – Editor).

1. Speaking to leaders of various religious communities at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, Yunus stated, “There may be differences between us due to our diverse religions, but we are not enemies. We are all members of one family with equal rights. Our Constitution has granted these rights to everyone.”

2. Addressing the meeting, Yunus added that while the issue of attacks on minorities is being raised repeatedly, there is a disparity between the reality and claims made by foreign media.

3. Emphasizing security, Yunus said that any incident involving attacks on minorities should be dealt with firmly, and perpetrators must face justice. Anyone found guilty should be held accountable, and steps must be taken to prevent such occurrences.

4. Yunus also emphasized the importance of the right to practice one’s religion, asserting that it is a constitutional guarantee that must be upheld and protected.

Editorial Perspective

To show that he is doing something for Bangladeshi Hindus, Chief Adviser to Bangladesh Government Yunus is making such visits. Hindus know that this exercise will not yield anything.
