Social Media platform ‘X’ banned in Brazil for violating rules

Brasilia – Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Moraes has ordered the banning of Elon Musk’s social media platform ‘X’ in Brazil. Following this decision, Musk publicly criticised Justice Moraes.

The Supreme Court’s decision has escalated the months-long dispute between Elon Musk and Justice Moraes over freedom of expression and misinformation. Earlier, Justice Moraes had warned that if ‘X’ did not appoint a local representative for its social media platform in Brazil within 24 hours, the platform would face termination. This recent ruling is a direct consequence of that warning.

Freedom of expression is being stifled in Brazil : Musk

Musk said that Justice Moraes is an evil dictator acting as a judge. He has tried to destroy democracy in Brazil. Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of democracy and an unelected judge in Brazil is stifling freedom of expression for political purposes.

Editorial Perspectives

  • In India, companies such as X, Facebook, Instagram etc., block the accounts of pro-Hindu organisations and devout Hindu individuals on social media in a dictatorial manner and suppress the Hindu voice. When Hindus oppose this, these companies do not even take a note of it. Despite this, the Government does not ban these companies in India nor does it force them to lift the ban imposed on the pro-Hindu accounts. This is shameful for 100 crore Hindus. India should learn self-respect from Brazil.
  • It is a joke that those who suppress Hindu voice are shouting that their own voice is being suppressed.
