Bengaluru (Karnataka) – The forced conversion of an innocent and poor woman to Islam by luring her is a matter of grave concern. The courts are vigilant to avoid such incidents. The Karnataka High Court recently refused to grant bail to Rafiq Bepari, a Muslim, in a case of rape of a Hindu woman and forcing her to convert to Islam, saying it was necessary to send a message to society that ” innocent and deprived women and children of the society are protected”.

Rafiq Bepari first became close to a Hindu woman and then befriended her. Rafiq was saying that he would get a job for the Hindu woman. Rafiq forced the woman to accompany him. Rafiq sexually abused the woman continuously. Rafiq then forcibly took her to Belagavi and locked her up at a place. He arranged another woman as a watchguard to prevent woman’s escape. The victim was kept here for several days. The woman was raped several times in Belagavi. Rafiq forced the Hindu woman to convert to Islam for marriage. A few days later, the woman somehow escaped and narrated the whole incident to her husband. After this, the woman complained against Rafiq of rape and illegal conversion.
