Accused who raped 80-year-old ailing woman sentenced to 12 years rigorous imprisonment

New Delhi – The Tis Hazari Court has sentenced an accused to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping an 80-year-old woman 2 years ago. The Court has considered the convict’s age, family responsibilities etc. and has given him a chance to reform, and referred the case to the Legal Services Authority of Delhi for fair compensation to the victim.

1. Ankit had entered the woman’s house with the intention of robbery. The victim has been bedridden for years due to her impaired body below the waist. Taking advantage of the victim’s condition, Ankit raped her. The woman was pleading with the accused with folded hands; but he committed the crime without listening to her, also beat her up, stole the mobile phone and other stuff and ran away.

2. While delivering the verdict, the Court said that a crime like rape is one that has caused pain to the victim’s soul. Due to this, the victim has to live a life of humiliation. Her self-confidence has disappeared. This crime is a shock to social and moral values. We do not have evidence of how the crime took place; but it seems that the accused did this only to satisfy his lust. He made the victim a mere tool to satisfy his lust.
