Patna (Bihar) – Waving Palestine’s flags, along with incidents of stone pelting, looting and fighting have been reported in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Muharram. It has created tension in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and Patna, Muzaffarpur and Motihari in Bihar. Religious fanatics participating in the procession thrashed a shopkeeper and looted his shop. In a procession at Muzaffarpur, seizing ‘DJ’ led to fury of the crowd and people chasing the Policemen and thrashing them. At Motihari, Palestine’s flag was waved in the procession. Even in Kanpur, sticks were used in the procession.

There was commotion at many places during Muharram processions and the Police were deployed to control the situation. The Administration has appealed to people to celebrate the festival peacefully and in harmony.

Some of the people involved in looting and fighting have been taken into custody by the Police. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Superintendent of Police, stated that stringent action would be taken against the people creating commotion.

Palestine’s flag was waved and the Israeli army’s attack was condemned during the procession taken out at Motihari. It is being accused that the Police didn’t take action to control the religious fanatics.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Action is never taken against people waving flags of Pakistan and terrorist organisation like ISIS in this country. Hence, there is no possibility of any action against people waving Palestine’s flags.
  • It is shameful for the Police and the Administration that despite advance knowledge of Muharram processions, they could not prevent the undesirable incidents.
