Mumbai – Investigation agencies did not arrest Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya and Mehul Choksi in time. Therefore, they managed to escape abroad, the Bombay High Court told the Enforcement Directorate. During the hearing of the petition filed by Chartered Accountant Vyomesh Shah, Special Judge of Bombay High Court MG Deshpande made this remark.
Vyomesh Shah was arrested in 2023 in a scam of Rs 100 crore in the Bandra Kurla complex. Vyomesh Shah had been released on bail and while giving bail, there was a condition that he should not leave the country without the court’s permission.

Vyomesh Shah had requested the court through a petition to remove the condition of court permission, citing the difficulty of getting permission from the court every time he has to go abroad for business. The court rejected this demand. While dismissing the petition, the court cited the above examples of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi. After scamming crores of rupees in India, these three have fled abroad. So far, no success has been achieved in bringing them back to India.
