Islamabad, Pakistan – Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has said that Bangladesh came into existence due to the situation that arose in the country in 1971. Imran Khan, who is in jail, has warned that the country is again on the path of disintegration due to a similar situation in the country. He further added, not Bengali leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, but General Yahya Khan and his close army officers were responsible for the disintegration of the country in 1971. Imran Khan while airing a video on ‘X’ wrote that every Pakistani citizen should read the report of ‘The Hamudur Rahman Commission’ and know whether General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the real traitor who broke the country.
Imran Khan has said that Sheikh Mujibur Rehman is being blamed for the disintegration of the country and is being called a traitor, which is not true. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman believed in the country’s constitution and wanted to stay with Pakistan, but General Yahya Khan made no effort to hold East Pakistan together.

Quoting the Hamudur Rahman Commission report, Imran Khan said that Mujibur Rahman was the most popular democratically elected leader in East Pakistan. He sought the protection of their democratic rights, yet General Yahya Khan chose to suppress the Bengalis to maintain his power, disregarding constitutional principles, rules, and laws.
The Pakistani military initiated ‘Operation Search Light’ to brutally suppress Bengali intellectuals and political dissidents. Countless minorities suffered oppression, and Bengali women were raped. As a result, General Niazi surrendered within a mere two weeks. The Pakistani Army found itself overpowered by the Indian Army, compelling Pakistan to sign the agreement under duress. Pakistan Army was defeated by Indian Army and was forced to sign the agreement.
