New Delhi – The National Council of Education and Research (NCERT) has removed the chapter on the demolition of the Babri Masjid from the Class XII Political Science textbook. Instead, the Shriram Temple movement will be taught in detail. Additionally, students will learn about the basis of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the construction of the Shriram Temple. Changes have also been implemented in the Class XI Political Science book. These revisions will be reflected in a new book scheduled for publication in May. The changes are intended for the academic year 2024-25, and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been notified accordingly.

Here are the changes :

In the 8th chapter of the Class XI book, the mention of more than 1,000 civilians, primarily Muslims, being killed in the Godhra riots of 2002 has been revised to state that ‘more than 1,000 citizens were killed in these riots’.

Previously, the book stated that Pakistan refers to Pakistan occupied Kashmir as ‘Azad Kashmir’. It has now been altered to specify that ‘this Indian territory has been illegally seized by Pakistan and named Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir’.

Editorial Perspective

Previously, NCERT had caused immeasurable damage to the education sector due to the presence of communist-minded individuals. Now, alongside teaching children the true history, patriots also expect action to be taken against those who distorted history thus far.
