Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) – There were 30 crore human beings and 78 crore cows in this country 75 years earlier. Now the population has crossed 140 crores, while only 17 crore cows are left. We will get to see cows only in photos in five years if cow slaughter is not stopped immediately, stated Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati of Jyotish Peetha, expressing his concern. He was speaking on the topic of ‘Gourakshan and Dharma (Protection of Cows and Dharma)’ in a programme held at Geeta Press Chitra Mandir.
Shankaracharya added that he prayed to Baba Gorakhnath for the protection of cows. Bhagawan Shrikrushna protected cows and nature in ‘Dwaparyug’. Swamiji travelled on foot from Mathura, the city of Bhagawan Shrikrushna to Delhi for the mission of protection of cows. On reaching Delhi, he paid obeisance to ‘Gourakshaks’ who sacrificed their lives in the agitation, staged to save cows, in 1966 when they were shot. He prayed to God to save the cows and appealed to Hindus to do their duty for the cows’ safety.

No big party has come forward for protection of cows
Shankaracharya also stated that he had appealed to 2,615 parties in this country to write a letter and give an affidavit for the protection of cows, but none of the big parties came forward. So far, 61 small parties have contacted him and extended support. It is now time for Hindus to wake up to the issue of protecting cows.
Vote for parties which work for the protection of cows
It is a sin to support those, who commit crimes and sins, as per our ‘Dharmashastra’ and laws; therefore, vote for parties striving hard for the protection of cows, appealed Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati.
Gorakhpur’s name will have to be changed
Gorakhpur means a place where cows are protected. Its name will have to be changed if cows are not protected here because the names which are not useful, are also being changed, demanded Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati in his speech.
