VHP files a Court case for keeping ‘Akbar’ lion with ‘Sita’ lioness in a zoo

Allegedly, the names were given by the Forest Department of the Bengal Government

Kolkata (Bengal) – An offensive act of keeping a lion named ‘Akbar’ with a lioness named ‘Sita’ together in the Siliguri (Bengal) zoo has come to light. Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Bengal division has filed a case in the Calcutta High Court accusing that this is an insult of the Hindu Dharma. The case will be heard on 20 th February.

The VHP members have asked that the names of these animals be changed. This couple was brought from Tripura’s Sepahijala zoo on 13 th February. The Bengal Government’s Forest Department claims that they have not changed the lion’s name. In this case, the Forest Officers of the State, and the managers of the Safari Park have been made defendants.
