Various Indian religions will be taught in British schools from April 2024

Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism will be taught

London (Britain) – For the first time in British schools, beginning with the academic session starting in April, the curriculum will incorporate the teachings of various Indian religions for students from the 4th to 10th standard. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has issued instructions to this effect. Students will receive education about Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. Religious education is compulsory up to the 10th standard in Britain, with only Christianity currently included in the curriculum. (It is worth noting that Britain, a democracy, and secular country, teaches Christianity in its schools. Given this, Hindus must now question why they have not been provided education on Dharma until now – Editor) Indian families and other organisations in Britain have been demanding religious education for many years.

1.As a result of the Government’s decision, 88 lakh white and other ethnic students, along with 82,000 students of Indian origin, will receive education about Indian religions. In this regard, the British Parliament has approved funding for teachers training.

2.The Government has also ordered books on Indian religious education. So far, in Britain, organisations such as the Vishva Hindu Parishad UK and the Vedic Education Organisation (Voice) have been teaching vocational courses in religious education for children of Indian families.

Yoga, Ayurveda, Sanskar Education, Meditation and Vedic Mathematics should also be taught in schools – Demand of Indian parents

Indian students are harassed due to misunderstanding about Indian religions

According to a survey conducted by an organisation called ‘Insight UK’, 5 out of every 10 Indian students studying in British schools are bullied in the name of religion. British children who study alongside Indian children often lack knowledge about Indian religions, leading to misconceptions and subsequent harassment of Indian children. Now with the inclusion of education about Indian religions in the curriculum, children from other communities will also get insight into Indian religions.

Editorial Perspective

Education about Hindu Dharma will be given in British schools but when will it be given in India ? Hindus should now inquire of the Government when Hindus in India will receive the education of Hindu Dharma.
