Information from Pakistan’s Interior Ministry
Islamabad (Pakistan) – Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has said that Pakistan, which is currently grappling with a significant influx of Tehreek-e-Taliban terrorists in the tribal Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is also facing the threat of the Islamic State (ISIS). ISIS is trying to target the religious minorities and Shia Muslims. According to PTI, the ministry’s statement was issued during a Senate briefing on the escalating influence and activities of Tehreek-e-Taliban following the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. It said that according to the report of ‘The Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies’, in the year 2023, 82% of deaths were because of Tehreek-e-Taliban, Islamic State and Baloch Liberation Army. The interim Afghan Government’s inaction against the banned group has contributed to the heightened concerns.
The Interior Ministry, in response to questions, emphasised Tehreek-e-Taliban’s reorganisation and operational expansion during peace talks in 2022, resulting in a significant uptick in militant activities, in tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
