Illinois (USA) – One should control anger. It is said that the calmer we are while working in the office, the happier the office environment will be. This is what is called ‘assertiveness’ in today’s language, which means ‘putting your point forward in a calm and restrained manner, and not accepting things that are fundamentally wrong’. However, a study conducted by the American Psychological Association found that anger makes a person more productive. Along with this, the person also comes forward as a powerful motivator to achieve his goals.

1. According to the research published in the ‘Journal of Personality and Social Psychology’, the emotion anger performed best compared to happiness, sadness or neutral emotions.

2. One thousand people were examined for this study. It found that in all experiments, anger increased people’s ability to achieve goals.

3. Heather Lench, lead author of the paper, said in a press release that facing challenges gives strength to achieve goals. In general, happiness is an ideal state and the attainment of happiness is considered the primary goal of people’s lives. Positive emotions are considered ideal for mental health and well-being; but our research found that a mix of emotions, even if it included negative emotions like anger, had the best results.

4. As per this research using anger as a tool shows positive results.

5. From a business perspective, anger and frustration are great tools for achieving creativity and innovation, according to Nicola Kemp, Chief Facilitator of ‘Good Shout’ organisation. We need to recognise what the workplace needs to be angry about and what needs to be seriously challenged ! This will allow you to experience the power of your role.
