Tel Aviv (Israel) – The war between Israel and Hamas has been going on for the last 19 days. Israel is also at war with Syria. On the night of 24 October, Israel attacked a Syrian military base. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that rockets were fired from Syria at the Israeli community in the ‘Golan Heights’ area, which borders Syria. Israel took this action in retaliation. UN Chief has called for an Israel-Hamas ceasefire.
Important developments in the context of war
1. The World Health Organization confirmed that six hospitals in Gaza have closed due to fuel shortages. In these hospitals, 1,000 people are on dialysis, while 130 are premature children. If the situation does not improve, critical patients will have to lose their lives.
2. Arab news agency Al-Jazeera has claimed that on 24th October Israel launched an airstrike on the Al-Amal hospital in Gaza where about 4,000 Palestinian refugees have taken shelter. Al-Jazeera said that the number of people killed in the attack is not revealed.
3. So far a total of 54 trucks of aid have arrived in Gaza, but they contain only medicines and food; not petrol-diesel. A total of 250 trucks will arrive this week, but it is not yet clear whether petrol and diesel will be sent.
4. The New York Times quoted informed by the Gaza Ministry of Health that on 23rd and 24th October 47 airstrikes took place in Gaza. 704 people died in these airstrikes. This is the highest number of people killed in a single day since the beginning of the war. Israel itself admits of targeting 400 sites in one day but says only 47 people were killed.
