Dhaka (Bangladesh) – A march taken out by Hindus to protest against Awami League’s MP Bahauddin Bahar in Nazrul Avenue area of Comilla city in Bangladesh was attacked, injuring 5 Hindus. One of them is reported to be serious. Islamic extremists from ‘The Chhatra League’ and Jubo League were involved in the attack. MP Bahar had called Durga-puja, an ‘Alcohol Festival’ against which the local Hindus protested by taking out a march. The march was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Youth Unity Council, Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, Student Unity Council, and Women Unity Council. Chhatra League is a students’ organisation, and Jubo League is an organisation of youth, both affiliated with PM Hasina’s Awami League Party.
Hindu-Buddhists-Christian Union Council’s General Secretary Rana Dasgupta informed, Bahar had said that the number of Durga-puja pandals will reduce if the sale of alcohol is reduced. Bahar had associated Durga-puja with alcohol on two occasions.
A few days back, Mayor Faisal of Munshiganj in Bangladesh disparaged a Hindu MP Mrinal Kanti Das by calling him ‘Malau (a derogatory word used for Hindus)’, ‘Nopungshak (impotent)’ and ‘Chandaal’.
