Surat (Gujarat) – The Shelter Home located on Adajan-Gorat Road discriminates against its residents on the basis of religion, and an inquiry into its affairs should be made, stated local Councillor Keyur Chapatwala. This Shelter Home is administered by the Trust named ‘Shahid Masid Medical Servant Society’. Councillor Chapatwala complained that the Hindu destitute were given bad treatment and the Muslims were given good treatment. Also, the Hindu destitutes were forced to leave the Shelter Home. The Shelter Home belongs to the Surat Municipality and it is given to Trust to run it. The municipality has many Shelter homes in the city and has given them to many organisations to administer. After Keyur Chapatwala’s complaint to Mayor Hemali Boghavala the Trust was blacklisted.

Mayor Hemali Boghavala paid a surprise visit to the Shelter Home. At that time numerous shortfalls and lapses were noticed. It was found that the Trust had not paid the electricity bill. The Trust claimed that 300 inmates were residing in the Home. When the Mayor asked for the list of inmates it was found that only 100 inmates were residing in the Home.
