Resolution against ‘same-sex marriage’ by the Bar Council of India

New Delhi – The Bar Council of India has passed a resolution against same-sex marriage. Through this resolution, the Bar Council has requested that the Court should leave this matter to the Parliament of the country. It also states, “The law of the nation regarding same-sex marriage is truly a reflection of the will of the people. 99.9% of citizens in the country are against same-sex marriage. The majority of the citizens of the country are of the opinion, ‘if the Supreme Court decides in favour of this petition, it will prove a setback to the cultural, religious and traditional structure of the country.’ The Bar Council is the voice of the common man. So we are expressing our concern about this issue.”

1. The resolution further says that “if the Supreme Court takes any stand in favour of same-sex marriage, its direct outcome can be seen in the form of cracks to the social frame of the country. The Supreme Court is expected to respect the opinion of the majority of the country, the sentiments of the citizens, and take note of these things and we request the Supreme Court to do the same.”

2. For the past few days, the Supreme Court has been hearing petitions over the same-sex marriage issue. The Union Government has also opposed the same-sex marriage petition and has made its view clear to the Supreme Court.
