New Delhi – With reference to the National Crime Register Report, Bhupendra Yadav Union Cabinet Minister of Labour and Employment informed that 1,12,000 daily-wage labourers had committed suicide in the 3 years from 2019 to 2021. During the same period, 66,912 housewives, 53,661 self-employed, 35,950 students and 31,839 labourers associated with farming committed suicide. In that period, corona pandemic had gripped the world.

He said that according to Unorganised Workers Social Security Act 2008, the Government is committed to provide security to labourers in unorganised fields. Daily-wage labourers also come under this category. As per this Act there is provision for insurance protection, formulating health-related welfare schemes, giving benefits during the maternity period, old age security and provision for Centre’s many other schemes.
