Charlie Hebdo publishes caricature of Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei, gets veiled threats

It is indeed ironical that people who do not respect or demean other religions expect respect for themselves !

Paris (France) – Enraged by the French magazine ‘Charlie Hebdo’ publishing a cartoon of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran summoned the French Ambassador.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian tweeted – The insulting and indecent act of a French publication in publishing cartoons against the religious and political authority will not go without an effective and decisive response.
Nasser Kanaani, the Spokesman of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “France has no right to justify the sacrilege of the sanctities of other Muslim countries and Nations under the pretext of freedom of speech”.

Despite the pressure from Iran, the magazine said it was an attempt to show the reality of the ongoing protests in Iran. “It was a way to show our support for Iranian men and women who risk their lives to defend their freedom against the theocracy that has oppressed them since 1979,” said the publication’s Director.
