Tamil Nadu’s Hindu activist arrested for appealing to the Hindus to buy only from Hindu shops during the Diwali festival

Chennai – Shakhtivel (32 years) a worker of the ‘Hindu Munnani’ Organisation was arrested for allegedly trying to promote enmity between two communities in society. The Court has ordered to keep him in Judicial custody. Shakhtivel the district co-ordinator of Karur District of Hindu Munnani, is a resident of Vengamedu Jyothidar Street. He distributed pamphlets appealing that Hindus do their Diwali purchases from Hindu-owned shops. In the pamphlet, he had said that before buying please see if there are pictures of Hindu Deities in the shop.

For this, he has been arrested under 153 A (increasing enmity between religions, castes, birthplace, residence, language etc), and 505 (statements instigating people) of the Indian Penal Code.
