PM Modi had told Russian President Putin at SCO meet that ‘this is not the time for war’
New Delhi – Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently held a telephonic conversation. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude Prime Minister Modi for advising Russian President Vladimir Putin that ‘this is not the time for war’.

1. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi and Zelenskyy discussed the conflict in Ukraine. ‘There is a need to end war and tension as soon as possible. For that, there is a need to follow the path of dialogue and diplomacy’, PM Modi said.
2. Modi further said, ‘There will be no military solution to the conflict in Ukraine. The conflict has put nuclear power plants in Ukraine at risk’. He also expressed concern that this could have dire consequences.
3. Last month, Narendra Modi and Russian President Putin met on the sidelines of the 22nd annual conference of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. During the bilateral talks at that time, Modi expressed concern over the Ukraine war and advised Putin that ‘this is not the time for war’. Putin had said, ‘I can understand your (Modi) concern about war. We also want the war to end as soon as possible, but Ukraine has not shown any interest in the talks’, Putin said.
