Srinagar (Jammu-Kashmir)  – A video of students singing the bhajan ‘Raghupathi Raghav Rajaram’ in a Government school in Nagam, Kashmir has gone viral. But the Former Chief Minister of Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti has criticised it. She tweeted, “Putting religious scholars in jail, closing the Jama Masjid and now asking students to sing Hindu Bhajans in schools, all these incidents expose the Hindutva policy pursued by the Government of India. Refusing the Government’s orders is inviting self-incrimination. We are paying the price as this is creating a volatile Jammu and Kashmir.”

Mehbooba Mufti further said ‘My question to them is, what do they want to do ? We honour the bhajan; but forcing Muslims to sing bhajans is … We accept and respect Gandhi. But you worship Godse who killed Gandhi and teach us the lessons of Gandhi.’

Editorial viewpoint

Mehbooba Mufti is speaking out of both sides of her mouth. On one hand she respects Gandhi and on the other she is opposing the Bhajan he advocated by saying it belongs to Hindus !
