Poverty-stricken Pakistan may take this decision to repay the mounting debts

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Mumtaz Nagri, Chairman of the Karakoram National Movement, said that Pakistan is likely to lease out Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to China to pay off its growing debt.

He further said, ‘The Gilgit-Baltistan region could become a battleground in the future. If Pakistan cedes Gilgit-Baltistan to China, then it can get hefty financial aid from China; however, this move can prove costly for Pakistan, because the US will not allow anything that will increase China’s influence. The United States may in the future blacklist Pakistan through the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and other global organisations’.
Deplorable state of Gilgit-Baltistan
According to Pakistani media reports, the population of Gilgit-Baltistan is declining. All the people are fleeing from the place. Gilgit-Baltistan accounts for 9% of all suicides in Pakistan. There is only two hours of electricity. There is also a lack of other facilities.
