Rajapaksa family is responsible for the current situation in Sri Lanka
It is said that the current crises in Sri Lanka are due to improper handling of affairs by Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his family. 5 members of this family hold prominent positions in the Government and a lack of foresightedness in decision making has resulted in this collapse. Enormous international loans had sunk the state financially and then the coronavirus pandemic pushed it further down. The Government turned a blind eye to this situation. Further, corruption and financial indiscipline worsened the situation. To stabilise the financial outbreak, Government repeatedly took international loans and this, in turn, depleted their foreign reserves.
Coronavirus crisis
Global and domestic coronavirus pandemic lockdowns crippled the Sri Lankan tourism industry, thousands lost their jobs. Currently, there are no commodities in the market to buy even if one has money, fuel stations have run out of fuel, load shedding is up to 13 hours a day, no diesel to operate the generators and the local transport system has collapsed.
