Ranchi (Jharkhand) – A man from a converted tribal family died in Durula village in West Singhbhum. The tribal community then opposed burying the body in their Sasan Diri cemetery. The body was finally buried in the yard of the family home after the Police intervened.
Reportedly, the incident took place on 14th September. The concerned family started digging a pit in the Sasan Diri cemetery of the ‘Ho’ community to bury the body. Then other tribal people stopped them. The villagers informed the people of the tribal ‘Ho’ Samaj Yuva Mahasabha about this. A meeting was then held in the village. At this meeting, it was decided that ‘the body from the concerned family cannot be buried in the cemetery’. The case reached the Police. After the Police intervened, the converted family decided to bury the body in their backyard. According to the ‘Ho’ community, after the conversion of a tribal family, the body of a person belonging to such a family cannot be buried in the Sasan Diri cemetery of the community.
