Irresponsible statement from member of National Commission for Women
|

Badaun (UP) – The Police arrested 3 people in a case of gang-rape and murder of a 50-year-old woman. Taking serious note of this incident, National Commission for Women sent one of its members – Chandramukhi Devi to visit the victim’s family. During her visit, she created a controversy by saying that, ‘the victim should have considered the timing if she was threatened by someone. She should have avoided leaving the home in the evening. Had she not left the home all by herself or had she been accompanied by someone, she would have been alive’. In a response to this statement, the chief of National Commission for Women – Rekha Sharma said, ‘Women have all the right to move off their own will whenever and wherever they want to.’
NCW member Chandramukhi was sent by the commission to visit the kin of the Badaun gangrape victim.
