Congress cries foul after 20-hour police interrogation of Youth Congress president

Obscene protest by Congress workers during AI conference sparks controversy

New Delhi – During the ‘AI Impact’ conference held on 20 February in New Delhi, workers of the Indian Youth Congress staged an obscene protest by removing their T-shirts. In connection with the incident, the police have so far arrested eight individuals, including Indian Youth Congress national president Uday Bhanu Chib. He was interrogated by the police for nearly 20 hours on 23 February, following which the Congress party has strongly objected. Additionally, three Congress leaders from Madhya Pradesh have also been arrested in connection with the case.

Indian Youth Congress national general secretary Shesh Narayan Ojha stated that when Youth Congress leaders staged a protest, they were branded as anti-national. He claimed that the methods being used were similar to those employed during British rule. He further said that a peaceful protest cannot be termed anti-national and alleged that the Government intends to suppress every dissenting voice. Opposing the Government, he added, is a democratic right and cannot be described as anti-national.

Editorial Perspective

Does the Congress, which jailed devout Hindus for years through unjust arrests, find even a 20-hour police interrogation intolerable ? Is this not sheer hypocrisy on the part of the Congress ?
