Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) – 79-year-old Harbans Lal, who was troubled by the smell coming from cooking of beef by a Muslim neighbour, started protesting. Angered Muslim family assaulted Harbans, resulting in his death. The incident took place in Nilkanth Colony here. Notably, Harbans Lal is a Kashmiri Hindu and had come to live in Bareilly due to the atrocities happening there. When Hindu organizations got information about this matter, they kept Harbans Lal’s body on the road and staged a protest.
Harbans was installing fiber sheets in his house because he did not like the smell of beef. Due to this, Sagir Ahmed, who lives next door, got into an argument with him and later Sagir, his son Imran and his wife beat up Harbans. He was injured and was admitted to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead. The Police have registered a case in this case and the Muslim family has been absconding.
Out of 32 houses in the complex, only 1 belongs to Muslim
Harbans’ son Hemant Lal said that meat was cooked every day in Sagir’s house and my father had a problem with this. When Sagir refused and did not listen to him, his father decided to install fiber sheets; but Sagir objected to this too and beat him up. There are 32 Hindu houses in the entire complex, while only 1 house belongs to Muslim, i.e. Sagir. No other family would get into fights but Sagir Ahmed used to fight constantly.
