Gang-rape of a woman in Delhi

  • 3 arrested

New Delhi – In a shocking incident, a 34-year-old woman, known for her work supporting women and the underprivileged, was gang-raped by 3 men just metres away from the old Delhi Police headquarters. Following the initial assault, a rickshaw driver took her to Gandhi Smriti Service Road near Rajghat and raped her inside the rickshaw. The repeated assaults left the woman in a traumatized state, and she wandered from Rajghat to Sarai Kale Khan, in a semi-naked and wounded state. Her private parts were bleeding. Shockingly, despite the high traffic on this route, none of the passing vehicles stopped to assist her. This horrific incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on October 11th. The incident has now come to light.

A naval officer saw the woman and immediately alerted the Police. Police officials stated that without this timely intervention, the woman might not have survived. She underwent surgery at AIIMS and is currently receiving treatment in the psychiatric department, as the trauma left her in a state of severe shock. Following about 21 days of relentless investigation, the Police apprehended 3 suspects, rickshaw driver Prabhu, scrap shop worker Pramod, and Shamshul Lagda. It was only after their arrest that the full extent of the woman’s ordeal became known.

Editorial Perspective

The Government should punish such culprits with death penalty in a public place. Only after such harsh punishment, there will be a reduction in such incidents.
