Madrid (Spain) – In the city of Valencia, Spain, a year’s total rainfall was received within only 8 hours on October 28th, causing flood. 217 people have died in this flood. There was no such flood witnessed over the past 50 years. Many people did not even get a chance to migrate to a safe place. Recently, mud was thrown at the King Felipe and his wife Queen Letizia, who were here to visit the flood affected areas. People present there also raised slogans like ‘Murderer’ and ‘We are ashamed of you’. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was also present with King Felipe on this occasion. ‘Why didn’t the leaders do anything to prevent the flood ?’, people were asking him. After this, King Felipe and Prime Minister Sánchez had to leave their tour midway and return to the capital, Madrid. This time people also attacked the Prime Minister’s vehicle. 2 of the security guards who came forward to stop them were injured due to the anger of the citizens.
Valencia MP Juan Bordera said King Felipe’s decision to visit the flooded area was “very bad”. People were very angry. Officials had warned people about this; but people did not listen to the authorities.
More than 1,000 soldiers have been deployed for relief work in flood-hit areas; but people say that not enough help is reaching them. Roads have been damaged by floods and many areas are still cut off from cities due to damage to communications and power lines. Emergency services personnel are searching for the bodies.
