Kabul (Afghanistan) – The Taliban Government has begun imposing stricter restrictions on women in Afghanistan. After imposing the rule of taking a male relative along with while travelling anywhere, now the Taliban has ordered that women should not even read the Koran aloud. Even if there are other women, they will not be able to read the Quran aloud. Taliban minister Mohammad Khalid Hanafi has supported the rule. According to Hanafi, a woman’s voice is a private matter. This voice should not be heard by others, not even by other women.
1. Another recent order by the Taliban requires women to cover their entire bodies, including their faces, in public.
2. Human rights experts and Afghan women fear the new order could ban women’s traditional prayers.
3. Women are also prohibited from having contact with men outside their immediate family.
Editorial PerspectivePlease note that the so-called feminists shouting that Manusmruti was anti-women while criticising Hinduism remain silent about the beliefs of the Taliban and their oppressive restrictions on women. |
