An appeal to join ‘Halal-Free Diwali’ campaign
Mumbai – The Indian Constitution grants personal freedom to everyone, and India is constantly referred to as a secular country. Despite this, imposing the Islamic concept of “Halal” on one billion Hindus, the majority population in India, is unconstitutional and violates fundamental rights of Hindus. Only the Government bodies like the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have the authority to certify food products. However, some private Islamic organizations are illegally selling Halal certifications in exchange of thousands of rupees. Without this certification, Muslims do not buy products, and the Islamic concept is being imposed on all non-Muslims. This has led to the creation of a parallel ‘Halal’ economy in India, which, it has been revealed, also aids in funding legal cases for terrorists. Consequently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has banned private Halal certifications in the State. In a similar manner, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has demanded a nationwide ban on private organisations issuing ‘Halal’ certifications to avert future threats to India. Considering that the highest consumer spending occurs during Diwali, “Halal-Free Diwali” campaign has been launched to raise awareness among the public and for national security. Ramesh Shinde, National Spokesperson of HJS, has appealed to everyone to participate in this campaign.

He has further stated that a few years ago, the concept of “Halal” was limited to non-vegetarian products and exports to Islamic countries. Today, it applies in India to sugar, oil, flour, sweets, medicines, cosmetics, and more, which is forcing purchase of ‘Halal’ certified products on Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist communities. Beyond ‘Halal’ certification, “Islamic Coin” and “Halal Share Market” has also emerged now. To obtain ‘Halal’ certification, ‘Maulanas (Islamic clerics)’ are appointed as “Halal Inspectors,” who have to be paid. This business favours only a certain religion not only at economic but also at a religious level. Continuous efforts are, therefore, needed to create a “Halal-Free India” not just during Diwali but on regular basis, added Shinde.
