London (Britain) – A 17-year-old youth attacked children in a dance class with a knife in Southport, Liverpool, on the evening of July 29. The incident resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to eleven others, many of whom are also children. The injured are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. The Police have apprehended the attacker. While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, the Police have ruled out the possibility of a Jihadi terrorist attack.
Newly elected British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has condemned the Southport incident, describing it as ‘awful’ and ‘shocking’. British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Liverpool Mayor Steve Rotheram have also condemned the incident.
An eyewitness reported that children aged 6 to 11 were attending a dance and yoga workshop when they suddenly saw 8 to 10 children running injured and profusely bleeding. Details of what transpired inside the workshop remain unknown. Colin Perry, a local resident, reported that the attacker was possibly wearing a green shirt and a face mask. According to the Police, the attacker resides in a village located 8 km away from the scene.
