Islamabad (Pakistan) – In the Kurram District of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, violence between Shia and Sunni communities over a 30-acre land dispute has resulted in 49 deaths and over 200 injuries. A significant contingent of Police and security forces has been deployed in the village of Bushehra to control the situation. Kurram Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Meshud stated that this conflict has been going on since last six days.

Last year, after both sides reached a compromise, it was agreed that the Government would determine the rightful ownership of the land. Both parties were expected to adhere to the Land Commission’s rules for resolving the dispute. The commission eventually awarded the land to the Shia community. A year after this decision, the conflict has resurfaced, leading to the recent violence.

Editorial Perspective

In countries where Muslims are a minority, they target people of other religions, while in countries where they are the majority, they engage in violence among themselves ! It wouldn’t be wrong to say that violence is their inherent tendency.
