New Delhi – Artificial intelligence (AI) technology could pose an existential threat to humanity because we may create intelligence superior to our own. This is a major concern, as AI could independently decide to kill people, warned Dr Geoffrey Hinton, the father of AI. Last year, Dr Hinton resigned from Google. He predicts that efforts to
control AI will occur within the next 5 to 20 years.

Hinton stated that AI could lead to job losses for many people and create income inequality. Therefore, Governments should take appropriate measures to address these issues.

AI could increase wealth of the rich

Hinton further mentioned that AI will undoubtedly help increase efficiency and wealth, but this wealth will likely go to the rich, harming those who lose their jobs. This could cause significant harm to the society. He suggested that Governments establish criteria for universal basic income to ensure that workers receive their rightful earnings.
