External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar slams foreign media

Kolkata (Bengal) – “Western countries feel that they have influenced this world for the last 200 years. How do you expect someone, who has been in that position, to give up those old habits so easily ?”, said India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, admonishing the foreign media for commenting about elections in India.

Dr S Jaishankar emphasised that countries which have to go to court to decide the result of their elections are giving us gyan about how to conduct elections. That is the mind game that is taking place in the world.

Dr S Jaishankar was answering questions of journalists during the unveiling of the Bengali edition of his book ‘Why India Matters’. On this occasion, he discussed various national and international issues.

Jaishankar added,

1. The Western countries want a certain class of people at the helm of affairs in India, but when the Indian electorate decides differently, they feel disturbed.

2. Someone is playing this dominion game for 200 years, they learn a lot, they are experienced and clever people. They propagate negative aspects about India simply because it refuses to conform to their ideological precepts.

3. People of PoK compare with Jammu & Kashmir : He further highlighted that there is unrest in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), where residents draw comparisons with their counterparts in Jammu & Kashmir. They see that the people of Jammu & Kashmir are developing, while people in PoK are still in the same situation where they were some decades ago. They are being mistreated and are living a life of slavery. PoK has always belonged to India and will remain so.

4. The US had also appreciated the Chabahar project : Regarding the US threat to impose sanctions due to the Chabahar Port agreement, he asserted that the project will benefit the entire region. People should recognise its impact on a large scale. In the past, the US itself has appreciated the Chabahar Port project on numerous occasions.
