How can you claim your rights after abusing free speech ? : SC slams Udhayanidhi Stalin

Supreme Court rebukes Udhayanidhi Stalin for statements aimed at destroying Sanatan Dharma

New Delhi – “How can you now claim the right to seek justice in the Supreme Court after misusing your right to freedom of expression ?” asked the Supreme Court to Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, reprimanding him for his earlier statements. Udhayanidhi had previously compared Sanatan Dharma to diseases like dengue and malaria, calling for its eradication. He had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking protection from the prosecution and opposing the charges against him. The Court rebuked him during the hearing of this petition. The next hearing is scheduled for 15th March.

‘You are a minister; You should know the consequences of such actions’

You have misused the rights granted under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution and disrespected them. How can you now file a petition in the Supreme Court under Article 32 for the right to seek justice ? Didn’t you know the consequences of what you said ? You are not a layman, but a minister. You should have been aware of the implications of such actions,” the Court admonished Stalin.

What did Udhayanidhi say ?

” Sanatan Dharma is against equality and social justice. Instead of opposing such things, they should be completely eradicated. Diseases like dengue, malaria, and COVID cannot be opposed; they need to be eradicated. Similarly, Sanatan Dharma also needs to be eradicated,” Udhayanidhi Stalin had stated.
